October 27: Stanford White in Detail virtual book talk with author Samuel G. White hosted by Village Preservation

    September 25, 2020

    The Monacelli Press

Date: Tuesday, October 27
Time: 6:00pm EST
Location: Online via Zoom

Nothing defines Stanford White, a partner in the legendary architectural firm of McKim, Mead, and White, and the master of classical architecture and interior design, as much as his ornamental detail. And that detail decorated some of the most distinctive sites found in Greenwich Village.

Few if any architects before or since employed decorative motifs with such flair, drew on so great a range of ideas, or achieved a density bordering on saturation without losing control. In his newest book, Stanford White in Detail, author, architect, and White’s great-grandson Samuel G. White examines the innovative and intricate decorative web of carved wood and marble, metalwork, mosaic and tile that was his ancestor’s signature.
